What is a master royalty administrator?

Think of a Master Royalty Admin as your publishing admin, but for the royalties earned from the master royalty points you have on records.

The most commonly missed royalties we recover are from record labels. Once your advance is recouped and the song's expenses are paid off, the label is obligated to pay you royalties, typically twice a year.

But getting paid isn't automatic. You need to be registered in the label's royalty system, a process that's slow, outdated, and often inaccessible unless you know who to contact and how to push it through.

That's where we come in. At Royalty Masters LLC, we handle the registrations, follow-ups, and internal processes needed to unlock your earnings, so nothing gets left behind.

Our Story

The Problem We Discovered

After working with hundreds of producers, we saw the same issue over and over. Master royalties were being left uncollected.

Frequently Asked Questions

What royalties do you collect, and what don't you collect?

We collect master royalties generated from 'producer points'. These are paid directly by the label who released the song. We do not collect SoundExchange, neighboring rights, or any publishing royalties including performace royalties nor mechanical royalties.

Doesn't my publisher collect master royalties?

No, and this is the single most common misunderstanding we run into. Publishing royalties and master royalties are two separate income streams. Your publisher administers the first. The second is paid by the label and requires its own administrator.

Doesn't SoundExchange collect master royalties?

SoundExchange collects one specific small type of master royalty, the one generated by non interactive digital radio such as Pandora and SiriusXM. All other master revenue is paid to the label that owns the recording, which then owes a share to the artists and producers on it. Collecting from the label is a completely separate process than SoundExchange.

Why have I never heard producers mention a master royalty admin?

Because 99% of producers are never owed master royalties from labels. A song has to recoup before a producer is owed anything, and hardly any label releases recoup. Publishing is the opposite. Every producer generates publishing, even if it is a few cents.

My song came out way more than 3 years ago. Am I still able to collect them?

Yes! There is no black box on the master side. Unclaimed publishing eventually gets redistributed and disappears. Master royalties do not. They sit on the label's books until someone claims them. We have collected in full on records more than 25 years old.

I never signed a contract. Can you still collect?

Yes. Getting unpapered records cleared is part of what we do, and our team handles it before collection begins.

What is a catalog audit, and what does it cost?

It costs nothing. We review your producer agreements, label portals, and royalty statements to identify what is missing and who owes it. If we find money, the goal is to work together to collect it.

Do you have a portal?

Yes, and it is the best one in the business. Every client gets portal access, so you can see what has been collected, what is in process, and where each label stands at any time.

How do you know if I'm already collecting.

Four steps. Work out which of your songs have likely recouped, and we can estimate that for you. Identify which label released each one. Check whether that label is paying you every October 1 and April 1. Then read your statements to confirm every song is actually accounted for properly.

What if the label refuses to pay?

We escalate. Our in-house legal team steps in and holds the artist and label to the terms of your agreement.

Do you work with clients and labels outside the U.S.?

Yes. We work with clients anywhere in the world and collect from labels in any territory.

Am I signing away ownership?

No. We only do administration deals. You keep full ownership of your rights.

I already have a lawyer and a business manager. Why do I need you?

For the same reason you have a publisher. This is not your lawyer's job and it is not your business manager's job. Administering a master catalog takes specialist knowledge, tracking systems, royalty accounting, and the persistence to chase labels for sometimes years. Some teams have that. Most do not.

I have already tried to get paid. What would you do differently?

Three things. First, relationships. We are on weekly calls with label royalty departments reviewing every open case, so our matters do not sit in an inbox. Second, process knowledge. We know what each label requires, in what order, and which department has to move for a file to progress. Third, statement audits. We have an in-house royalty analyst who reviews every statement and an in-house legal team working alongside them, so once the money is flowing we confirm every song and every rate in the contract is being accounted for correctly.
